Brent second Best Bar None awards ceremony was held on 19th September 2008 at Wembley Plaza Hotel with 50 premises having signed up to the scheme (a 50% increase on last year). The Police Borough Commander and mayor of Brent were the main guest speakers. NHS Brent was represented by Luke Kwamya, DAAT Alcohol Strategy Manager.
Best Bar None is a voluntary scheme that operates as a local competition. Licensed premises who apply are asked to provide evidence of meeting key criteria relating to their trading practices. In this way it aims to raise standards and encourage consistent practice across an area.
Brent Police in partnership with the Council Licensing Office, Community Safety Unit and Primary Care Trust (PCT)/DAAT introduced the Best Bar None Scheme to the borough in 2007 and sought applications from the borough’s 200+ pubs, bars and clubs. The first Best Bar None Awards Ceremony in Brent took place on Friday 28 September 2007 at the Wembley Plaza Hotel.
Award categories include; Best Bar, Best Pub and Best Club. Gold, silver and bronze prizes are awarded in each category and there is also an overall Gold winner. Winners/accredited pubs are presented with a plaque to be displayed outside their premises.
The scheme aims to ensure that all pubs and bars in Brent are meeting current licensing and trading laws. It also aims to commend pubs and bars that are meeting and exceeding expectations including promotion of safer drinking.
