Brent Community Services celebrates achievements with Chief Nursing Officer for England
29 March 2010
Brent Community Services held its first annual staff celebration event on Thursday 19 March at Wembley Plaza.

The evening was a great success, with awards given to staff for achievements for their hard work over the past year. Grants were also awarded for innovations to improve patient care in the future.

Dame Christine Beasley DBE, Chief Nursing Officer for England and Director General at the Department of Health, was guest speaker and presented the awards. In her speech Dame Christine praised Brent Community Services (BCS) for its positive spotlight on staff and highlighted the importance of being proud of what BCS has achieved in its first year, as well as focusing on areas for continued improvement.

Achievement awards were given to the BCS Cardiology team who have worked in partnership with St Luke’s Hospice and NHS North West London Cardiac and Stroke Network. Together, they have improved care for patients with advanced heart failure, including earlier identification of the condition. This programme has received further recognition from the National Heart Conference and won an award for ‘Promoting Healthy Lifestyles – Preventing ill Health’.

Another Achievement award was presented to the Brent District Nursing Service for their dedication to improving service, in particular the pilot scheme to improve End of Life care.

BCS staff were given the opportunity to apply for an Innovation Grant, to fund a piece of work that would improve patient community care. The winners included a patient and public information kiosk, a cutting edge piece of equipment that helps neurologically impaired individuals use their hands and wrists and a regular ‘stay and play’ session for children affected by HIV.

Hussein Khatib, Chief Operating Officer for BCS, said: “We are all proud of our achievements and the commitments shown by our staff. The event was a celebration of our successes and it demonstrates our focus on improving patient care.”
