Swine flu Important information

GOT FLU? STAY AT HOME
If you experience a sudden fever, cough or shortness of breath or have a headache, sore throat, tiredness, aching muscles, chills, sneezing, runny nose or loss of appetite you may have swine flu.
For most people this is a mild illness and you should start to feel better after a few days without needing to go to your GP or A&E.
Help yourself and others by not spreading the virus.
If you have flu-like symptoms and are concerned that you may have swine flu:
- you have a serious underlying illness - you are pregnant - you have a sick child under one year old - your condition suddenly gets much worse - your condition is still getting worse after seven days (or five days for a child)
Note: The National Pandemic Flu Service is a self-care service that will asses your symptoms and, if required, provide an authorisation number which can be used to collect antiviral medication from a local collection point. For those who do not have internet access, the same service can be accessed by telephone on:
- Telephone: 0800 1 513 100
- Minicom: 0800 1 513 200
The best thing you can do is stay at home, rest, drink plenty of fluids and take over-the-counter flu remedies to help relieve the symptoms. |
The UK government led by the Department of Health with the Health Protection Agency is monitoring the situation. The World Health Organisation is coordinating the global response.
