Carers
can ask and should be offered an assessment if the person they care for is someone who receives or is eligible to receive community care services
have the legal right to an assessment even if the person they care for refuses services
have the right to refuse an assessment
Benefits of having an assessment
The purpose of having an assessment is to:
• determine whether you as a carer are eligible for support • determine if the person you care for is eligible for community care services • provides an opportunity to listen to you • offer the help you need to carry on caring • plan for future care
